Q & A: New source for medical emergency care in town

Q. What kind of medical care is your business offering the community and what types of procedures can you handle?
A. We are offering courteous, rapid, and efficient care for injuries and illness that do not require the level of service of an ER. We have state-of-the-art digital x-rays, laboratory studies for common problems, EKG's, stitches, splinting, intravenous fluids and medications.

Q. If someone comes in with an emergency will they be seen by a physician?
A. Yes.

Q. What are the advantages to having an emergency room physician on staff?
A. We are trained to evaluate and treat multiple patients in an efficient manner. Emergency physicians are more comfortable caring for more complex problems than those treated by primary care offices. We treat fractures, dislocations, complex and facial lacerations. Patents have efficient visits and most are treated and released with one hour.

Q. How many patients can you comfortably handle per day?
A. We have seven examining rooms and can have several providers on duty as needed. This facility can handle over 50 patients per day after which we would mobilize our providers.

Q. Do you have other urgent care facilities and if so where are they located?
A. We have staffed the Wilton Urgent Care Center for many years, though the facility is owned by Saratoga Hospital. We also have staffed several local emergency departments, beginning in 1989, and we've staffed the Saratoga Emergency Department for over 15 years.

Q. Why did you choose to locate in Clifton Park?
A. It has a rapidly growing population. Research demonstrated that our community could benefit from an easily accessible Urgent Care Center since there isn't a hospital in the immediate area. For those patients who require hospital care, we'll admit them to the hospital of their choice.

Q. There always will be some emergencies that you cannot treat. What are those types of emergencies and how should people handle them?
A. Head, chest, or abdominal injuries, amputations, pregnancy related issues, chest pain, severe headaches, abdominal pain, numbness, or stroke symptom, are best served with 911 and the EMS systems.
